DeepSeek reset password title card: eyebrow 'Guide · Reset password', title 'Reset Your Password', tagline 'Log out, pick password login, then Forgot Password.', and four stats: FAQ official path, Code by SMS or email, All devices log-out, and No email change, beside an open-manual illustration.

You opened the DeepSeek app, typed what you thought was the right password, and got bounced back to the login screen. It happens — especially if you signed up months ago with Google, then later used a phone number, or if your browser autofill quietly saved the wrong string. This guide covers the DeepSeek reset password path that DeepSeek itself documents, what to do if the verification code never arrives, how resetting relates to Google, Apple or WeChat sign-in, and what to check about your chats, API keys and balance. Where DeepSeek’s own pages describe a step, we quote them; where they don’t, we say so rather than guess at buttons.

The short answer: how to reset a DeepSeek password

Title card: eyebrow 'Official FAQ · Four steps', title 'Forgot Password', tagline 'The reset path DeepSeek's own FAQ describes.', and four numbered steps: 1 Log out, 2 Password login, 3 Forgot Password, 4 On-screen steps, beside a typewriter illustration.

DeepSeek’s official FAQ (checked 24 October 2026) gives the path in one line: log out of your account, then on the login screen select the password login, choose Forgot Password, and follow the on-screen instructions. The same FAQ says verification codes are sent by SMS or email, depending on whether your account uses a phone number or an email address.

If you originally signed in with Google, Apple or WeChat, the password login may not be the route back in — sign in with the same provider you used before. DeepSeek’s FAQ notes that Google login is not supported for IP addresses in mainland China, and that WeChat login is only supported for IP addresses in mainland China. For a refresher on the sign-in options, see our DeepSeek login walkthrough.

Why password resets fail (and what to check first)

Before starting the reset, confirm three things. Getting these right saves a support request later:

  • You’re on the official site or app. The web chat lives at chat.deepseek.com. Lookalike sites and apps exist; our guide on how to verify the official DeepSeek app shows the publisher names and store listings to look for.
  • You know which email or phone number is on the account. Codes go to the phone number or email address registered with DeepSeek. DeepSeek’s FAQ says changing the bound email is currently not supported, so the original address matters.
  • Your network isn’t flagged. According to DeepSeek’s FAQ, the message 「Current device environment error」 means your IP address or phone number has been flagged as high-risk, and the fix is to try a different environment. Our DeepSeek availability by country page covers regional restrictions.

Reset your DeepSeek password on the web

On the web, the documented path is the same as in the apps:

  1. Go to chat.deepseek.com. If you are still signed in on this browser, log out first — DeepSeek’s FAQ starts the process from the login screen.
  2. On the login screen, select the password login.
  3. Choose Forgot Password.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions. The verification code goes to the email address or phone number on your account; check spam and filtering if it does not appear.
  5. Set a new password that you do not use anywhere else.

If you manage credentials in a password manager (1Password, Bitwarden, iCloud Keychain), update the saved entry before closing the tab. Browsers sometimes keep the old autofill value, which makes the next login “fail” against the right password.

Reset your DeepSeek password on iPhone

The iOS app follows the same documented path.

  1. Open the DeepSeek app. On Apple’s App Store the official app’s seller is Hangzhou DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence Co., Ltd, and it requires iOS 15.0 or later; our DeepSeek on iPhone guide has the listing details.
  2. If you are signed in, log out. On the login screen, select the password login, then Forgot Password.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions, retrieve the code from your email or SMS, and set a new password.

If the email is filtered, check the Junk folder and any filtering rules on your mail account. DeepSeek’s FAQ suggests updating the app to the latest version when an account option it describes cannot be found.

Reset your DeepSeek password on Android

The Android steps mirror iOS.

  1. Open the DeepSeek app. On Google Play the developer is listed as DeepSeek, and the app requires Android 7.0 or later. If you installed it from anywhere else, check it against our DeepSeek on Android guide — fakes have circulated on third-party stores.
  2. Log out if needed, select the password login on the login screen, then Forgot Password.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions with the code sent to your email or phone, and set a new password.

Comparison: which reset path applies to you

Illustration: a laptop with a generic web-mail client showing a search for 'DeepSeek' and a sign-up email in the Spam folder, next to a generic 'Reset your password' form on an example.com page; not a capture of DeepSeek's emails or pages.
Sign-in method Does DeepSeek’s Forgot Password apply? What to do
Email + password Yes Password login → Forgot Password; code by email
Phone number Yes, if the number still receives SMS Password login → Forgot Password; code by SMS. Number out of service: see the rebinding form below
Google Use Google sign-in instead Sign in with Google; recover your Google account first if needed. Not supported from mainland China IPs
Apple Use Apple sign-in instead Sign in with Apple; recover your Apple Account at account.apple.com if needed
WeChat Use WeChat sign-in instead Supported only from mainland China IPs, per DeepSeek’s FAQ

What to do if the reset email never arrives

DeepSeek’s FAQ says verification codes may be delayed, and lists the checks below. Work through them in order:

  • Wait a moment. Codes can lag before they arrive.
  • Make sure the phone number or email address is correct. If you typed it wrong, no code will arrive.
  • Check spam, blocking and filtering settings on your email and SMS, including any “Promotions” or “All mail” views.
  • Check your phone is in service, powered on and has a signal if the code comes by SMS. If you recently ported your number to a new carrier, the FAQ says it may take 24 hours to take effect.
  • Don’t request codes repeatedly. If you’ve requested too many codes within a short period, the FAQ says to wait a while before trying again.
  • Restart and retry. Once you’ve confirmed all of the above, the FAQ suggests restarting your phone and requesting a new code.

Corporate mail systems sometimes quarantine first-time senders, so check with your IT team if you use a work address. If none of the above works, broader access issues might be at play — our DeepSeek troubleshooting reference covers status checks, network blocks and edge-case errors.

Choosing a strong password (and using a manager)

Once you can log in again, do not reuse the password you just retired. Three rules cover most threat models:

  1. Length over complexity. A long passphrase like copper-fern-quiet-ledger-92 is harder to crack than P@ss1! and easier to type. NIST’s current password guidance (SP 800-63B-4) favours length over composition rules.
  2. Unique per service. If a password leaks from any other site, attackers will try it elsewhere. Generators in 1Password, Bitwarden, KeePassXC or Apple Passwords solve this in one click.
  3. Change it after a compromise, not on a schedule. The same NIST guidance says services should not require periodic password changes, but should force a change when there is evidence of compromise.

If you’re setting up a fresh account, our DeepSeek account setup guide covers the basics from day one.

Does a password reset affect chats, API keys or billing?

DeepSeek does not publish a statement on what a password reset changes, so here is what its official pages do say:

  • Chat history on the web and app is stored with your account: DeepSeek’s FAQ describes syncing chats between mobile and web, and its Privacy Policy lists chat history among the data it collects. Nothing in those pages says a password reset deletes chats. If you want a copy first, the FAQ says that on the web you can go to Settings → Data → Export data; the export contains your account information and all chat history, and the download link is valid for 7 days. Note that this is a feature of the consumer surface — the developer API is stateless and the client resends history with each request, as covered in our DeepSeek API documentation.
  • API keys are managed separately on the developer platform’s API Keys page. DeepSeek doesn’t say whether a password change affects them, so if you suspect the account itself was compromised, revoke the keys anyway (see below).
  • Balance: DeepSeek’s FAQ says top-up balances do not expire, and its pricing page says fees are deducted from the granted balance first when both a granted and a topped-up balance exist. The FAQ mentions one event that forfeits unused developer balance — deleting the account — not a password reset.

If your account was compromised, not just locked

A forgotten password is one thing. An account someone else got into is another. A telltale sign is conversations you didn’t start; on the developer platform, it is usage you don’t recognise. DeepSeek’s FAQ covers this case directly (“I see questions in my account that I didn’t ask”). Take these steps in order:

  1. Log out every session: the FAQ path is Settings → Account settings → Log out of all devices. If you cannot find the option, update the app to the latest version.
  2. Reset the password via password login → Forgot Password, choosing a password unique to this service.
  3. If you use the API, revoke exposed keys: according to the FAQ, log in to the Platform, open the API Keys page, click the trash-bin icon next to the key and confirm Revoke, then create a new key and replace it in your applications. Our guide to getting a DeepSeek API key covers creating the replacement.
  4. Check usage per key on the Platform’s Usage page, which the FAQ says can be filtered by time range and API key and exported.
  5. Reset the password on your email account too — if attackers reached your inbox, they can request codes to it.

If sensitive personal data may have been exposed, our DeepSeek privacy overview describes the data DeepSeek holds and where it’s processed, which informs what you may want to delete next.

Common reset errors and how to fix them

Checklist title card: eyebrow 'Checklist · No code', title 'Code Not Arriving', tagline 'Check the address, filters and limits before retrying.', and four stats: Wait, codes can lag; Spam, check filters; 24H for ported numbers; and Limit, too many codes, beside a punch-card illustration.

These are the account messages and problems DeepSeek’s FAQ addresses, with the fixes it gives:

Message or problem Cause, per DeepSeek’s FAQ Fix
Current device environment error IP address or phone number flagged as high-risk Try a different environment (for example another network)
Verification code not received Delay, wrong number or address, filtering, too many requests Work through the checklist above; wait before requesting again
Email domain not supported The email domain is not on DeepSeek’s support list Use a major international provider such as Gmail, Outlook, Hotmail or Yahoo; contact [email protected] if it persists
Can’t log in with Google / WeChat Google login isn’t supported from mainland China IPs; WeChat login works only from mainland China IPs Use a sign-in method that matches your location
Your account has been temporarily suspended Possible violation of the platform usage guidelines If you think it’s an error, file the Account Suspension Appeal form; most reviews finish within 3 business days
Bound phone number no longer in service The code can’t reach the old number File the Account Rebinding/Unbinding Application form; most reviews finish within 3 business days, with the result sent by email

If you’ve cycled through every fix and still cannot get in, the FAQ’s contact address is [email protected]. Keep proof of ownership ready — the rebinding form asks for information to verify your identity — such as your registration email or phone number, approximate sign-up date, and any payment receipts if you’ve topped up the developer platform.

Prevention: small habits that save the next reset

  • Save the password to a manager the moment you set it.
  • Keep the phone number on your account current while the old one still works — the FAQ says you can change it under Settings → Account settings if the original number can still receive SMS.
  • Bookmark chat.deepseek.com directly — typing it from memory is how people end up on phishing clones.
  • If you switch between web and mobile, pick one canonical login method (e.g. always Google) so there’s no ambiguity about which credential to recover.

How long does the DeepSeek password reset email take to arrive?

DeepSeek doesn’t publish a delivery time; its FAQ says only that verification codes may be delayed and to wait a moment. If nothing arrives, check that the email address or phone number is correct, check spam and filtering settings, and avoid requesting many codes in a short period — the FAQ says to wait a while before trying again if you have. For broader access issues, see our DeepSeek troubleshooting guide.

Can I reset my DeepSeek password if I signed up with Google?

DeepSeek’s Forgot Password option sits under the password login, so if you signed up with Google, sign in with the same Google button instead. DeepSeek’s FAQ notes that Google login is not supported for IP addresses in mainland China. If you can’t access the Google account itself, recover that first through Google’s account-recovery flow. Our DeepSeek login guide explains how to identify which sign-in provider you used.

Will I lose my chat history after resetting my password?

DeepSeek’s official pages do not say a password reset deletes chats: its FAQ describes chats as synced between web and app, and its Privacy Policy lists chat history among the account data it holds. What the FAQ does say is that deleted conversations cannot be recovered and that deleting your account permanently deletes its chat history. To be safe, export your data first from Settings → Data → Export data on the web. The developer API is different — it’s stateless and the client resends history with each request, as covered in the DeepSeek API documentation.

What should I do if I think someone else accessed my DeepSeek account?

Follow DeepSeek’s own FAQ: go to Settings → Account settings → Log out of all devices, then reset your password via password login → Forgot Password. Revoke any API keys that may be exposed on the Platform’s API Keys page and create new ones, using the steps in our API key setup guide. Also reset your email account password — attackers with inbox access can request new codes. Check the Platform’s Usage page for charges you didn’t initiate, and see our DeepSeek privacy overview for what data may be exposed.

Is there a way to reset my DeepSeek password without email access?

If your account uses a phone number, the code can come by SMS instead. If the phone number bound to your account is no longer in service, DeepSeek’s FAQ says to fill out its Account Rebinding/Unbinding Application form so it can verify your identity; most reviews are completed within 3 business days, and the result is sent to the email address you provide. Note that the FAQ also says changing the bound email is currently not supported. Going forward, keep your sign-in details current — see account setup.
