Copilot’s strength here is choice. Reasoning
DeepSeek V4 turns thinking on and off via a request parameter, not a separate model ID. Each agent invocation against a premium model burns at least one premium request, and a Claude Opus 4.7 turn costs 7.5 of them at the current multiplier. 100 such turns = 750 premium requests. Pro’s standard quota is 300 per month, so the overage is 450 × $0.04 = $18.00, plus the $10 base subscription. Total: $28.00.
Even allowing generously for tokens we didn’t count, V4-Pro costs roughly 1/20th of Copilot Pro for this workload, and V4-Flash about 1/200th. Three points every developer needs to internalise:
- The API is stateless. DeepSeek does not remember prior turns on its side — clients must resend the conversation history with every request. The web chat and mobile app maintain history on their side; the API does not.
- Legacy IDs still route, but not for long.
